At OCP Nutricrops we are proud of our heritage as a part of the OCP Group.

OCP has been providing phosphate and phosphate products from our mines across Morocco for the last 100 years. In its first century, the OCP Group has proven itself as a reliable and supportive actor in global food security. The Group has partnered with governments, NGOs, businesses, and researchers across the world who share the goal of feeding a growing world while reducing our impact.

The story of how OCP went ‘from mining phosphate to feeding the planet’ began in 1920, following the discovery of phosphate deposits in Morocco. This was the start of a unique journey of stewardship and responsibility, in developing this precious resource, which when converted from its mined form as phosphate rock into phosphorus, has proven to be a vital macronutrient for our plant’s growth, along with nitrogen and potassium.

OCP began as a small company producing phosphate from a single mine in Khouribga in 1920, but today OCP produces a third of the world’s phosphate and has operations on six continents. Few companies build up the business acumen to become centennials, let alone develop into a major global multinational, one of the most important companies in the world in the pursuit of our collective food security.

In 1921, OCP began excavating rocks from its first mine in the Khouribga area of Morocco, about 120km from Casablanca. OCP soon began transporting phosphate rock by train to the port of Casablanca for export.

The OCP Group started extracting phosphate and the shipment processing of phosphate on March 1, 1921, from the first mine in Boujniba, in the Khouribga area, the richest phosphate deposits in the world. The transportation of the phosphate to the port of Casablanca also started that year, allowing the first export of phosphate on July 27, 1921.

Since then, OCP has continually evolved its operations, harnessing more value from phosphate locally. The company began to invest in processing capacity in Morocco and then globally, to turn phosphate into fertilizer and a variety of other important industrial products. These investments continue to this day, as OCP not just improves its production processes, but continues to unlock new areas of value creation. OCP Group invests in innovation and research to empower farmers to maximize the potential of their land while enhancing the soil for future generations.
