OCP Nutricrops announces a strategic investment to increase fertilizer production capacity by 9 million tonnes by 2028

OCP Nutricrops, a subsidiary of the OCP Group and a leader in the phosphate-based fertilizer market, is announcing a strategic investment to reinforce its production capacity with the creation of two new mining and industrial axes: Mzinda and Meskala. These hubs, combining cutting-edge technology and sustainability, will gradually increase fertilizer production capacity by 9 million tons by 2028 (notably TSP and TSP+), with 4.5 million tons operational as early as 2026. This project is part of the Strategic Program Mzinda-Meskala (SP2M) program, which aims to significantly expand the Group’s production capabilities while strengthening its competitiveness and commitment to carbon neutrality by 2040.

Cutting-edge technologies for flexible and sustainable production

The Mzinda and Meskala clusters embody a new generation of industrial sites, combining advanced Industry 5.0 technologies, artificial intelligence and automated production processes. These complexes, designed to run exclusively on renewable energies (solar and wind), and using unconventional water via desalination and wastewater treatment (WWTP), illustrate OCP Nutricrops’ commitment to sustainable and efficient production. Their modular, scalable design enables them to adapt to market fluctuations and ensure a flexible offering tailored to the needs of farmers worldwide.

Strategic investment and collaboration opportunities

These two upcoming poles are designed to meet the world’s growing demand for sustainable fertilizers. They reflect OCP Nutricrops’ vision and ambition to strengthen its leadership and role as an industrial pioneer in the production of customized fertilizers, notably TSP and TSP+, while integrating principles of sustainability and operational efficiency at every stage of the value chain. Thanks to cutting-edge operational and technological expertise, these hubs also open up new development prospects in the mining, chemical, industrial and logistics fields, as well as in renewable energies, a central focus of OCP Group’s energy transition.

The SP2M strategic program serves as a pillar for growth and innovation, illustrating OCP Nutricrops’ commitment to meeting global agricultural challenges with high-performance, sustainable solutions.

« These new industrial assets will become a global benchmark in the custom fertilizer sector, reflecting our commitment to meeting global agricultural challenges while offering our partners opportunities for sustainable growth » notes Youssef El Bari, CEO of OCP Nutricrops.

A driver of industrial and regional development

The new clusters will strengthen an integrated regional economic ecosystem, with a significant impact on local communities.

In collaboration with partners such as Université Mohammed VI Polytechnique (UM6P), INNOVX and JESA, the SP2M program will promote:

  1. The stimulation of a new local industrial ecosystem through national and international partnerships, in sectors such as renewable energy and circular economy.
  2. Tangible socio-economic impact by supporting the development of local populations’ skills and the promotion of sustainable practices to strengthen economic resilience.

« With a significant economic and social impact, the Mzinda and Meskala projects embody the ambitious vision of the SP2M program and OCP Nutricrops: to transform these regions into global competitiveness hubs while creating sustainable opportunities for local communities. This ambition is anchored in the DNA of these projects and integrated right from the construction phase of the mining and industrial complexes » explains Abdelghani Filali, Managing Director of SP2M.
